WHAT IS A ONELESSCUP MADE FROM?

OneLessCups are made from a plant fibre mix, consisting of 60% Bamboo Fibre and 40% Corn Starch; the bamboo fibre is grown in a purpose built Bamboo forest and does not encroach onto the natural bamboo forests used by a plethora of animals. The plant fibre mix is then combined with BPA Free Melamine to hold the cup together and make it durable; the melamine content of our cups is around 15%.

The product has gone through safety tests in the EU, US and beyond, and the melamine content is at a perfectly safe level as demonstrated by the results of these tests. It should be noted, however, that the cups should not be microwaved as this can speed up the decomposition process and contaminant your drink.

WHAT MAKES YOUR CUP DIFFERENT?

Several companies produce reusable cups with the body of the cup being made from plant fibres, however the lid is usually made of silicone. Our cups have a screw on lid, also made using plant fibres, which increases the percentage of the cup that will biodegrade.

ARE ONELESSCUPS BIODEGRADABLE?

For a product to be biodegradable, it needs to satisfy EU Standard EN 13432 - several companies misuse the term Biodegradable and claim that their product satisfies this standard, but in reality the standard states that 90% of the product must biodegrade within 6 months of it being disposed of. If our cups were to meet this requirement, they would not be nearly as sturdy as a hot drink drinking vessel could safely be, therefore they are not biodegradable. That said, the majority of the product does decompose with the exception of the resin used to bind the product together which leaves a residual dust, 2 years after it has been disposed of. In you use your cup regularly then it is much more environmentally friendly than its single-use cup nemesis.

WHAT ARE THE SLEEVE AND SEALS MADE FROM?

The sleeve, seals and stoppers are made from 100% food grade silicone. Silicone is primarily made of silicon but also includes oxygen, hydrogen and carbon. They are phthalate free and food contact safe.

WHERE IS YOUR BAMBOO GROWN?

The bamboo fibre we use in our cups is grown sustainably in Anhui, China.

HOW DO YOU USE THE LID?

The lid has three functions;

1) Sealed, for use when on the move. The drip tip is designed to stop leaks but is not completely leak proof; if you have a full cup of tea and turn it upside down it will leak.

2) Open sip, for use when drinking hot drinks.

3) Open straw, for use with paper or metal straws and cold beverages.
